About this work
An eclipse occurs when celestial bodies align in a precise and fleeting geometry. In Encounter, Agata Oszmałek transforms this cosmic alignment into a metaphor for human connection.
One painting depicts a lunar eclipse, the other a solar eclipse. Two distinct astronomical events become two acts of a single story. A rope runs between the canvases, serving both as the boats’ rigging and a tangible trace of the bond between them. Remove it, and the paintings remain complete, yet the relationship disappears.
The work explores invisible forces: love, distance and moments of absolute synchrony. Its true subject lies neither on the canvases nor in the painted light and shadow, but in the space between them.
